Bronze medal @ Macedon Ranges Wine Exhibition
Our production for this vintage was just under 1.1 tonnes per acre resulting in a final production of 1400 bottles. Handpicked from young vines on the 29th March 2018. This Riesling was destemmed and left on skins for 5-6 hours; the fruit was then basket pressed, settled overnight and moved into old barrels to ferment. The wine spent 3 months on lees in old oak to build complexity and texture before it was moved to steel tank for a further month.
Lyons Will Estate Riesling - The Riesling Block was planted in 2013 and is approximately 2.5 acres and consists of two clone varietals, Pewsey Vale & D2V2.
The vineyards of Lyons Will Estate were initially established in 1996 with its first plants being of the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varietals. In 2013 the vineyard was purchased by Oliver Rapson and Renata Morello and renamed Lyons Will Estate. Since taking over the property the estate has more than doubled in size to include Gamay and Riesling (planted in 2013), making the total area under vine just over 10 acres. Since taking over the property a new winery and cellar door have also been developed, allowing them the ability to grow, make and sell all our wine onsite.
All vines are hand pruned, hand picked and carefully manicured throughout the season, with a focus on ongoing manual canopy management for enhanced fruit quality. All wines are made from exclusively estate grown fruit.
Soils: Our unique environment and soils play a huge part in Lyons Will wines. Most of our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay is on yellow chromosol soils, with quartz running through it. Whilst our Riesling and Gamay blocks are on grey kandosol soils.
