Jeremy compares two Nebbiolo wines from Soumah in the Yarra Valley

Today, Jeremy tries two Nebbiolo from Soumah in the Yarra Valley, an up and coming maker of Nebbiolo.

Soumah Nebbiolo 2016:

Nose - earthy, floral, musky cherries, red berries, fresh and intense

Palate - long palate, LOVE IT!!. Even, textural and bright.


Soumah The Butcher 2018:

A blend of Syrah, Cabernet blend with a modern twist of Nebbiolo. Deeper in colour.

Nose - bright, juicy, slightly minty, chocolatey oak. Very floral and lots happening.

Palate - juicy, medium bodied, vivacious palate. Mouth filling with fine dusty tannins. Hint of cola, dried herbs and citrus at the end that could be Nebbiolo full stop.

Both retail at $50 and Jeremy would score both as a silver medal, around 90-91 out of 100.

Which would he choose - it depends. If you want something European then the Nebbiolo but if you are after something Australian with an Italian twist then The Butcher.
