Marsanne is a white wine grape, and is a primary blending grape in white Rhône blends that also include Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and sometimes Viognier. The wine has good weight and structure however lacks good depth of perfume or flavour. This is what makes it a good match when combined with Roussanne and Viognier. The grape is planted in other regions around the world notably Australia and California.
Marsanne can be enjoyed with many different foods but is well suited to rich seafood and shellfish such as lobster. Food pairings: South East Asian cuisine such as Thai or Vietnamese food, pan-fried trout with almonds, and Baked eggplant with crème fraiche.
