Wines from the Paulliac appellation in Bordeaux, France are highly successful in international fine wine markets, and have been highly desired from the beginning. It has three in five of the top ranked châteaux listed in the 1855 Médoc Classification: Château Latour, Lafite Rothschild and Mouton Rothschild which produce about 85% of the regions production. Pauillac wines are considered to represent the quintessential Bordeaux red wine.
Oak-aged Cabernet Sauvignon is the primary grape of the region, usually blended with the typical Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec grapes that feature in a solid Bordeaux Red Blend.
The full bodied, rich wines have strongly structured tannins and only improve with age into a great length and an elegant bouquet. They have a classic blackcurrant and raspberry aroma complemented by the cedarwood aroma from being aged in oak. Pair a Pauillac blend with roast lamb or game.
