Pinot Meunier (historically just Meunier) is one of the three “noble” varieties used in sparkling wine, the most well-known variety being the Champagne blend. Meunier is a dark-berried grape variety, which is a clone mutation of the Pinot group and shares the same DNA fingerprint as Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and various other by-products. With similar flavours and aromas to Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier is slightly higher in acidity, less earthy and has more of a high-toned citrus-y character.
Food pairings: light salads, light pasta and rice dishes, seafood, shellfish and Goats Cheese.
