Rioja Red Blend is the term used to describe the combination of red-wine varieties used in red wines of Rioja, Spain. Tempranillo usually forms the base of these wines and blended with Grenache, Carignan and Graciano. These wines are known for their structure and tannins with fruity characteristics. There are four levels of classification which depend on the amount of time the wine spends in oak and similar to the Burgundy Cru Classification system. Food pairings: Roast Pork, Spring Lamb Chops, Chorizo, crumbed, roasted eggplant with a tomato & basil ragout and aged cheese.
