Tempranillo (“temp-rah-nee-yo” which translates as “"little early one") is a black grape variety widely grown to make full-bodied red wines which form the backbone of some of the finest wines from Spain and Portugal. The grape variety are also grown in America, Argentina and Australia. Depending on the vineyard and the terroir, tasting notes can be described as berries, prunes, chocolate and tobacco. Food pairings: Lasagne, pizza and dishes with tomato-based sauces, polenta and Mexican food.
