Touriga Nacional (“tor-ee-gah nah-see-un-nall”) is a variety of red wine grape, described as a full-bodied wine originating in Portugal with ageing potential like Cabernet Sauvignon. The variety is a key ingredient in both dry red wines and the fortified wines of Oporto (Port). Very small amounts are grown and produced in South Africa, Australia, USA and Spain.
Touriga Nacional produces dark, full-bodied, powerful wines with exceptionally complex aromas. They frequently shows blackberry, blueberry, rock rose and rosemary notes. Food pairings: Beef Stroganoff, Meat Pie, Roasted Cauliflower, Gruyere and Swiss Cheese.
