The Yarra Valley was Victoria's first wine growing region. Vines were first planted in 1838. Due to its diverse climates and terroirs it is noted for its variety of wines. The Yarra Valley is the market leader when it comes to Premium Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Given its proximity to the city of Melbourne it is also one of the closest wine regions to a major city. Day trips are more than accessible from the city and tourism plays a critical role with the wine loving community.
